Frequently Asked Questions
BMI (Body Mass Index) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. It's calculated as weight (kg) divided by heightΒ² (mΒ²). BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnostic measure.
BMI is a useful general screening tool but doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, age or gender distribution of fat. Athletes may have high BMI despite being very healthy.
For adults, a BMI of 18.5β24.9 is considered normal/healthy. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25β29.9 is overweight, and 30+ is obese. For children, age and gender are also considered.
Consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice. Generally, maintaining a balanced diet and regular physical activity helps manage weight. Don't use BMI alone as a health measure.
